Alpaca Management:
Exploring the Care, Feeding, and Handling of Alpacas
Saturday, October 8, 2011
9:30am -4:30pm
Cost: $30 ($25 if paid before 9/25/11)

If you are thinking about getting alpacas, this workshop will provide you with the information that you need to care for your alpacas and provide some hands-on experience of haltering and leading alpacas.  There will opportunities to work directly with the alpacas; learn how to administer medication; and trim toenails.  We will also discuss nutrition, deworming protocols, and how to create an alpaca friendly farm.  You will have the opportunity to tour both our farms and see how we manage our herds.  Sunrise River Alpacas is a larger operation and has two barns; while Spirit Song Alpacas has a smaller herd that is located in one barn.

Come with your questions.  We look forward to introducing you to our herds, and providing you with an experience of working with these delightful animals that we have raised for over ten years.   Lunch is included in registration.

To register for this event, please contact Peggy Pearson at Sunrise River Alpacas.  Her phone number is 651-674-5690.

or
 Saturday, February 11, 2012
9:30am-4:30pm

Learn the art of hand-spinning in the beautiful rural setting of Chisago County at the farm of Spirit Song Alpacas. Betty Carlson and Peggy Pearson will guide you through the process of skirting an alpaca fleece, washing the fiber, carding, and creating handspun yarn.  You will learn the fundamentals of spinning on a Navajo spindle (which is included in the cost of registration and is yours to take home with you).  By using a spindle, you can focus your attention on the basics of spinning.

Lunch, the Navajo spindle, and fiber for spinning are included in the cost of the workshop.  Accommodations are available in the nearby towns of North Branch, Lindstrom, Taylors Falls, or St. Croix Falls; there is also a B & B located close to Sunrise River Alpacas.   Registration is limited to 5 people.  To register for this event, please contact Peggy Pearson at Sunrise River Alpacas, 651-674-5690.
